The Saxon Garden was created on the plateau of the former Dominican Fields, along the Warsaw road, in 1837. Its main founder and coordinator of the construction works was Feliks Bieczyński.
Before 1837, Lublin did not have a city park, and the three-hectare urban square created in 1827 did not fulfill its purpose primarily due to frequent flooding. Bieczyński, while planning the architecture and the natural layout of the park, drew inspiration from park designs in other cities, with special reference to the Czartoryski Park in Puławy, which was already fully shaped at that time and was considered one of the most beautiful parks in the Polish lands. The greatest feature of the newly created park was the terrain's topography, with numerous natural valleys providing an opportunity to introduce many species of herbaceous plants, trees, and shrubs. Nowadays, peacocks can be found in the garden, adding to the beauty of the place. It is an ideal spot to enjoy some peace and quiet in the heart of the city.
